    In 1835 when Charles Dawin arrived in the Beagle he refered to New Zealand as the land of murder, cannibalism and atrocious crime. Obviously the passive Moriori and weaker tribes wouldn't stand a chance against the more powerful tribes, so would be ripe for collaboration with the British Empire for revenge. Divide and rule said Julius Caesar two thousand years ago.

    The video itself only shows repeat images of Maori people across different eras. One picture showed survivors of the Orakau massacre/siege(1864), in 1914. They could have read parts of the journal from the whaling ship, the Lord Rodney. The journal actually offers such an interesting perspective into their situation and the crews opinions of what was happening. Even though the ship was seized, the Maori Chieftains paid for the service, and gave the crew food from the stores that the Maori brought.

    White European slavery is the main reason North African countries are now predominantly white people. European slavery did not start with the Barbary Pirates, it began at least 2,000 years before with the Carthaginians, Persians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Vandals, Franks, Holy Roman Empire, Arabs/Ottoman, Vikings & Byzantines.

    In the account that I read of this, the Moriori met and decided to offer the Maori a portion of the island as a way of maintaining peace and coexisting. The Maori used the fact that the Moriori were gathered together in one place to make that offer to the Maori to launch a surprise attack. Then, the Maori proceeded to kill the Moriori men, cook them and eat them.

    • @makoent2231
      @makoent2231 5 днів тому

      Close. You're highlighting two different accounts. The Moriori elders in 1835 believed that they should have let the Maori keep the land that they stole, as they ceased their actions of violence for a few days and appeared wary. The Maori stumbled upon the meeting and misinterpreted the meeting as a War Party, and took action the next day. The second part of offering the land came in 1870, when a petition to the New Zealand Government was made to reclaim some of their last land, and the descendants of the Maori Iwi were claiming 'Conquerors Rights'. The response years later was that the Moriori would receive 2.3% of the land back, and the Maori keep 97.3%. By which point in 1870, there were only 101 Moriori left. " The Moriori failed to gain any title on Pitt or the outlying islands, which were part of their traditional food sources. The judge had chosen to base his decisions on Māori rather than Moriori customary law, and to recognise their right of ownership by conquest. Moriori believed that they held on to the mana of the land by adhering to their ancient laws of peaceful occupation." The Invasion itself took the lives of 108 women and 118 men. Their names are listed in the manuscripts by Hirawanu Tapu, a survivor the genocide who had documented their entire history, culture, language, and the events of the genocide up to the refusal of the Government to act or recognize their people. 1,336 died from abuse, disease, and despair while they were enslaved between 1835 to 1870.

      That is not correct. You should be aware of the 1859 and 1862 petitions by 30 Moriori elders to former Governor Grey. The horrors of the 1835 invasion and genocide are detailed by the survivors, including a list of names and how they died (murdered, eaten or died in slavery).
